A friend of mine might start taking Zoloft and I know many of the members here do quite a bit of reading and research. So I was curious in your travels have you seen or heard of any conflicts with other drugs? Natural / Chemical. Legal / Ilegal.

for all I know zoloft is an antidepressant. It's commonly known that it's a big no no to combine antidepressants etc. with MAOI's. I even had to tell my that what he can and can't eat or drink. And a few weeks ago this guy died

so that's another thing, I don't think zoloft and opiates combine well...

A friend of mine who is a doctor told me that you shouldn't combine ssri's (and zoloft is an ssri??) and opiates because the combination is especially dangerous to put you in a respiratory rest (=your breathing stops).

Though I've once had two prozac (fluoxetine), a lot of alcohol, some dope and some valoron and nothing happened, neither to me nor a friend who had the same (and even more valoron). However it was after that when our friend (the doctor) told us we could have both died and that wasn't a joke...

I don't know about Zoloft,but it seems that any anti-depressant or antipsychotic suppresses the effects of psychedelics.

I do know for a fact that valium brings you straight down(handy for a bad trip),and that zimovane/zopiclone does have a similar effect to valium but it doesn't seem to bring you right down,just relaxes you and smooths the trip out.(Might because it is a hypnotic and not a benzo,like valium.)Benzo's and heroin is a bad combination-known several people to die taking these.

BTW,you asked for other combinations.Mushrooms and amyl nitrate(Rush/Poppers)blows your head off,if you take enough mushrooms.It make you hallucinate like mad.An awesome combination,actually.

Amyl nitrate also works very well with weed and/or alcohol
You can feel the effect much longer than if you're sober and sniff amyl nitrate, it is actually pretty energizing when you're stoned. At least that's true for the brand named "rave" (if that's still available). I never liked other brands (tried two or three).
However, amyl nitrate is not healthy and you can easily develop a habit as soon as you own a bottle...

I used to take 100mg zoloft, then to 50 and later to 25 and off.

I can tell you from expereicne that it does make you lathargic. Smoking weed would make my head foggy and drinking i was hard to control. Becuse of the change in chemicals in your brain, i STRONGLY recommend not mixing if possible. If the person is an adult, i recommend not taking the medication. You loose sight of yourself and if irritablity and other issues are a problem, look within. Figure out why they are a problem and train your brain with meditation. Drugging yourself is not a good idea. I was forced onto it by parents and shortly thereafter (6-8 months later) stopped taking it without their knowlege because I was miserable.

Anti-depressants really suck and usually the damage inflicted is bigger then with a lot of psychedelics, so my advice to him: Stay away from it...

Once's took valium and damn, was I depressed the days after...

I can agree and disagree at the same time...
I have been taking fluoxetine for a year and it really helped me at first. I had been in a situation where I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel and the fluoxetine helped me get away from this feeling. I somehow found back on track and then I realized the drug only fucks me up, so I quit taking it. Quitting wasn't a problem at that point, I even felt better after I quit. I can't tell you what would have been without fluoxetine, but I think it helped me get over a serious crisis.

You were depressed couse it is benzo., but its not wise to tell that antidepressants are poison.They help and save lives for major depressive dissorder patients.And hello from Hrky-datura boy 8)

iv noticed that people on zoloft haveqa harder time getting high than regular people. i had two friends one not on it and one on. i gave the one not on it 1 hit of acid and he was really really high and i gave the guy on zoloft like 3 or 4 and nothing really happened

Hi, it is an SSRI, so yes, it can have dire interactions with DMT and Ayahuasca, any reputable facilitator in the Amazon will not let you take part if you're taking anti-depressants, especially these.

It is highly, highly advisable to avoid any and all psychedelics if you're taking SSRIs.

And, whilst I fully understand your friend is likely experiencing a difficult time mentally and emotionally, if they can find other ways to deal with it other than anti-depressants it would be advisable.

They don't cure anything, they only mask, and often times don't even do that well. SSRI are well known to cause suicidal thoughts in many, they have terrible side effects both coming on them, during and most notably coming off them. Just do a few searches on withdraw symptoms and that brand or any other SSRI and you'll see.

Your friend would be much better of seeing a psychotherapist or a host of other interventions before resorting to using a chemical crutch.

If they do decide to take that route, psychs and mind altering substances are off the menu, seriously not advisable to mix them up.
