INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE ON PSYCHEDELIC RESEARCH

With international researchers from a wide variety of academic disciplines, this two-day event will be dedicated to scientific research into psychedelic substances and the psychedelic experience. The 2012 Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelics Research will feature current research into a wide array of psychotropic substances, such as psilocybin, LSD, ayahuasca, ibogaine, DMT, ketamine, MDMA, Salvia divinorum and even nitrous oxide.

Researchers will present the results of their studies into the inner workings of the brain under the influence of psilocybin and LSD. In addition to this neuroscientific approach to psychedelics, our conference will also address the broader sociocultural – and philosophical – context in which this research takes place, and the implications of the presented results will be discussed. What do these findings mean for the treatment of conditions such as PTSD, depression, addiction and autism? New therapeutic possibilities will be explored, while old treatment options will be reviewed and readdressed. From psychopharmacological research in humans to the phenomenology of altered states of consciousness, ICPR will be a continuation of our 2010 conference –Mind Altering Science.

Please be reminded that our special Early Bird rate will only be available for 5 more days. Get your tickets here today, before prices go up! Meanwhile, the programme is filling out. To know more about the latest additions to our programme, continue reading below.

We are proud to present our latest addition to the programme, generously sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS): Research Specialist Ilsa Jerome (PhD). The title of her lecture is: 'Opening Doors: Developing MDMA as a Therapeutic Tool', but she will also address the LSD end-of-life-anxiety studies performed in Switzerland and other MAPS projects.

We are very excited to have Matthew Johnson, Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, as a speaker at our conference. He is also sponsored by MAPS. He will present recent empirical findings on psilocybin and mystical experience. You might have heard about this exciting research in the media.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce that ICEERS will host a 2 hour plenary session on the latest clinical research into the psychoactive ethnobotanicals Ayahuasca and Iboga, with presentations of ICEERS' advisory board members Jordi Riba (PhD) on the biotransformation of DMT in humans and José Carlos Bouso (MD) on the long term effects of ayahuasca use on mental health. Vice-president of ICEERS Maria Carmo Carvalho will inform the public about ICEERS' collaboration with a Brazilian clinic for addiction treatment with ibogaine, presenting their program, recent data and a double blind clinical trial ICEERS hopes to setup at the clinic in the future. ICEERS has been involved in several legal cases, and will screen 'Ayahuasca: Persecution of an ancient culture' - a movie about a legal case that took place in Chile for the therapeutic use of Ayahuasca. Secretary Oscar Parés will provide more data on the current legal situation and the importance of scientific backup in the defense, after which debate is opened with the public. The International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research & Service (ICEERS Foundation) is dedicated to marshal the forces of ancient, indigenous ethnobotanical knowledge and modern therapeutic practice for the purpose of answering the need for efficient tools for personal and social development.

We hope to see you there!

The Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research is slowly approaching: in six weeks time the city of Amsterdam will be the centre of today's cutting-edge psychedelics research. On October 6th and 7th, some of the world's leading scientists will address the latest results of their investigations into a wide variety of psychedelic substances. Take this study into the long term effects of ayahuasca for example.

From psychopharmacological research in human subjects to sociological and anthropological observations and groundbreaking neuropharmacological research, ICPR 2012 will truly be a multidisciplinary event, of interest to students, scholars, health care professionals, treatment providers and many others.

A large selection of speakers is now online, as is a special clinical track organized and sponsored by ICEERS. Soon, new workshops and a selection of rising researchers will be added to the programme. Keep an eye out on the site, as we are adding new items regularly.

Please note that ticket prices will go up from September 1st, so if you do not have a ticket yet, you only have ten days left to profit of our reduced prices. Register online now!

The conference website now also features detailed information on the conference location and several options for accommodation, with discounted prices just for visitors of ICPR 2012!

We would like to announce that the full schedule for the conference is now online! Information about all the speakers and their topics can be found here. If you haven't done so already, you can register until the end of September. Tickets at the door will be very limited.

Special Tracks

ICPR will host an expert debate on the mechanisms and prospects of the use of MDMA in psychotherapy on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday afternoon there will be a 2 hour session on Philosophy and Psychedelics. Although psychedelics pose an interesting challenge to philosophy, they are rarely discussed. Several Dutch academics explore the historical and ideological roots of this negligence.

The OPEN Foundation stimulates new research into psychedelics. Throughout the weekend, students and beginning researchers also get the chance to present their work: have a look at the rising researchers here.

Lastly, for those interested in doing psychedelics research in the future, Ruud Kortekaas will host a one hour track on 'How to become a legit psychedelic researcher'.
