What do you think about the internet . Is it good ? Is it bad ? How good and how bad ? Does it need controleing ? What about quality controls ? What about a sort of quality seal for sites ? What about file shareing ? Should it be stopped ? By who ? How ? What about child porn ?

Do you believe what you see and hear in the internet ?

That's like 12 questions... Each question can be answered by writing a complete novel.

To be short... Internet is one of the best inventions ever.

I am glad it is there, it have given us humans so many information, that we wouldn't have find easy in real life.

And of course it does create a lot problems, but it also created a lot solutions.

Anyway, i think the Internet we still using nowadays, will finally change to a controlled Internet. That's why i collect all kinds of information, like ebook/video's/articles/whole websites/pictures, so if the times comes that lots of info will be banned, i still can share it with others and send it to all people over the world!

I don't think a lot will be banned in the future. Maybe things like torrent sites, but it doesn't seem like that will happen in the near future.

It's exactly the thing that anyone could share anything with everyone that would make it impossible for authorities to ban things, because if they'd close down one site there will come other sites to replace the first one.

Politicians are just to frustrated by the information that people can find on the Internet nowadays. They constantly try to pressure the laws of our privacy. They already have penetrated our privacy laws, a way to far, but they aren't yet on that place where they want to be. They want to have a Internet where people have to get a license before they can host there own websites.

The social websites will just be heavy controlled, since the owners of these social site will have the responsibility and will be afraid of money charges. But remember my words. The Internet will shrink massively in the next 10 years!

internet holds all evil and all goodness.

it may be the savior of free information trading, since most media is controlled by the government and the internet is (yet) safe from that control in most countries.

Internet may also be a way for people to get emotionally detached from others, thus making a evolution step in humanity towards automatism and coldness on human social relationships.

but hell it was a good invention. The Internet is all around us, even now on this very room, you can see it, when you open your television, or wen you turn on your television, you can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes.

The internet is a blessing because I have so much information about music and drugs and all kinds of other stuff that I'm interested in.

Before I had the internet, my information on LSD came from movies like the Doors, and from what friends had told me. I know so much more today about the stuff I'm doing, and I got to know so much more as well. I would never have heard of ayahuasca without the web. I would have never listened to Shpongle. Maybe I would have never started taking enthogens again. That would be so lame, I don't even want to imagine it!

What's wrong with that? I don't want to be a brown-noseing yes-man who agrees to everything people say. I like disagreeing trying to force my opinion on people!

all the internet is a connection to information
everything we see on it was put there by us
its technology, a tool, so whether its good or bad depends on who's using it

the internet gave me the info i needed to escape from a certain bullshit religion so i give it a major cheers, at the time i was living in the middle of nowhere and it was all i had.

it's also a showcase of confirmation bias gone wild (that's when people just seek out information they already agree with rather than challenging themselves with opposing ideas, eg http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page ) but that's really more a problem of egotistical human nature than it is the internet

"whether its good or bad depends on who's using it"

On who provided the "information" , on if its true or not and the ability of the person reading it to see if its true or not .

Thata what i keep talking about . Remember 5 years ago when google worked ? Before the adverts , twitter , myspace , face book and blog floods that are filling the internet now . Remember how easy it was to find reliable information and now how hard it is . Originaly the internet was made by intelligent , well educated people whos only interest was spreading / exchangeing facts . Now its full of nuts trying to convince people that cannabis is healthy , that they have contact to aliens , that the world was made in 6 days , and , and , and .

On further ponderance, I think intelligent people will find each other no matter what. I also think that the internet makes people more media-literate, in the sense that they will (slooooooooowly) learn how information can be manipulated to claim anything. It is so much easier to connect with likeminded people through the internet, that it is creating the possibility for a more just and equal society, because people who thought they were alone can now stand up together and speak with a bigger voice.

Knowing which information is true and which is false is quite hard, though, and it is the major drawback of any medium. I think people need to be educated to find out how to find facts, so our educational system should no longer be focused on imprinting as much information as possible, but on creating the ability to find the correct information. We had steps towards that over here in the Netherlands, but higher education is now complaining that students don't know their shit anymore. I think they have different abilities though, that are somehow part of the scientific mindset necessary for getting to know truth.

I`m not sure about that . Everyone knows that of the 50 or more TV stations he can get on his telly most are crap and know which ones to ignore . Usualy the adverts are seperate , or there is a distinction made between them and the rest of the programs , on the internet not . On TV there are documentarys from people that have been scientificaly checked by experts , on the internet most of them arent .

Yet before something gets on television, it is filtered, streamlined and carefully selected, which is also a form of censorship. In dealing with the internet you have to be media-smart. You have to know what is an advert, what is an attempt at spreading information and what is disinformation. You need to know which are reliable sources to distinguish between these things. But you also learn by doing it. On TV you just sit and watch, on internet you can participate and if you are wrong people will tell you.

I dont want to argue . We are saying the same thing .

"Yet before something gets on television, it is filtered, streamlined and carefully selected, which is also a form of censorship"

So is any distinction between true and false . ( I mean when someone says something and loads of "experts" stand up and say it isnt true isnt that a sort of sensorship ? ) Who decides whats true ? An internet full of self proclaimed experts that can make LSD from cherrys ? The lemurians ? The stars ? Or internationaly acepted experts ?

We need to educate people better .
